Quilt Block Sundays
It Started with a Block…
One post. One block. One little burst of creative momentum.
I shared it. I noodled on it. And now, more than a month in, I’m ready to tell you more.
See, I’m not what you’d call a linear quilter. I’m a mood-based, project-hopping, cut-all-the-pieces-then-vanish-for-a-week kind of maker. Some days I want to press and trim for hours. Other days, I’d rather stitch a single seam and call it good. And honestly? There are days when finishing just one block feels like crossing a finish line.
Especially when that block comes entirely from scraps or stash. That’s a victory in itself.
So, about a month ago, I felt proud. I’d made a block using fabric I already had and a pattern that had been waiting patiently for its moment. I shared it on a Sunday, and thought—hey, #quiltblocksunday has a nice ring to it.
To my surprise, it wasn’t really “a trend” yet.
So I posted again the next Sunday. Then again. And again.
And wouldn’t you know—it’s been a whole month of weekly quilt blocks. And I’m not stopping.
Now, I want you to join the fun.
Here’s what I hope #quiltblocksunday becomes:
✨ A weekly reminder that done doesn’t have to mean “a finished quilt”
✨ A chance to play—with color, scraps, old patterns, or techniques you’ve never tried
✨ A space where one block is more than enough
✨ A gentle challenge to show up for yourself creatively
✨ And maybe...the beginning of something bigger (52 blocks = one amazing quilt by year’s end, just sayin’)
The "Rules" (or Lack Thereof)
There’s really only one rule:
➡️ Make a quilt block each week (or batch a few at once if life’s hectic—no judgment!)
➡️ Post it on Instagram on Sunday
➡️ Use the hashtag #quiltblocksunday and tag me so I can cheer you on 🎉
What not to worry about:
Block size: 4½" or 24"—if it’s a block, it counts.
Pattern choice: Dig into your pattern bin, go improv, try FPP or EPP—anything goes.
Project status: Start fresh, finish a UFO, revisit a class project—it’s all valid.
Repeats: Want to make the same block over and over? Go for it.
Origin Story: Found an antique block at a show? Share it! Found a long lost block at the bottom of your stash, that works too!
Let’s make this simple. Let’s make it joyful.
Let’s stop waiting for the “right time” to quilt and simply make one block at a time.
So…are you in?
#quiltblocksunday 🧵 Let’s do this.
